MUSCATINE ? Josephine ?Jo? Joiner, 96, of Muscatine, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Calvary Church, 501 U.S. Highway 61, Muscatine, followed by a reception and luncheon. There will be a private family burial. Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Church or Help for Christian Nationals Inc., P.O. Box 381006, Duncanville, TX 75138. Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home in Muscatine is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Joiner was born March 1, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Jeanette (Cherry) McElhinney. She married Otis W. Joiner, whom she had met at the University of Iowa, on June 8, 1941.
She grew up in Washington and later moved to Iowa City, where she attended the University of Iowa. After four years in Schenectady, New York, and at the end of World War II, she and her husband moved to Muscatine, where she lived for 70 years. She was known as a loving wife, mother to four daughters, a loyal neighbor and friend to many, and for her willingness to contribute her time and energy to the Muscatine community. Her leadership in weekly Bible studies allowed her to share her deep faith in Christ and impact the lives she touched.
Surviving are four daughters, Cherie Root and husband David of Fairfax, Virginia, Mary Jauchen and husband John of Dallas, Texas, Thekla Caldwell and husband John of Los Angeles, California, and Amy Joiner and fiance Frank Munoz of Chantilly, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis, in 1975.
