WELLMAN ? Joyce Belcher, 93, of Wellman, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, in Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 18, at the United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time, Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established from the Wellman Historical Society. Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Belcher was born July 2, 1923, in Harrison County, Missouri, one of seven children born to John Edward Cox and Delilah (Hunter) Cox. She married Lewis Vernon Cox on May 4, 1945, in Hays, Kansas.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1941 and attended Maryville State College for two years. In 1943 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she was employed in the quartermaster?s office at Kirkland Field. While there, she met her future husband. The couple and their family moved to Wellman in 1951, where they remained for the duration of their lives. She was very involved in community organizations and was an active member of the United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. She worked at the Wellman post office for 17 years. She was known to have a wonderful gift of making friends with almost everybody she met, and she treasured every friendship. She loved playing golf and bridge, and shopping.
Surviving are two children, Robert Belcher of Harper, and Rebecca Belcher of Marion; one granddaughter; and one younger sister, Mary Ann Brimer of Wichita, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Belcher; and five siblings, Oleta Dowell, Theta Wilson, Vernon Cox, Helen, and Phillis Cox.
