Joyce M. Schmidt

      Joyce M. Schmidt, 67, of Des Moines, formerly of Keota, died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

      Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening at Iles Funeral Home in Dunn's Chapel. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. A memorial has been established for Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Mrs. Schmidt was born in Iowa City to George and Agnes Sigler.

      She grew up in Keota and moved to Des Moines 49 years ago. She worked for 25 years as a word processor for Ernst and Young, retiring in 2000. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, card playing, mushroom hunting, bird watching, and gardening.

      Mrs. Schmidt is survived by four children, Adam Schmidt, Bill Schmidt, and Pam Schmidt, all of Des Moines and Theresa Mach and husband Jeff of Waukee; two granddaughters; and twelve siblings, Ray Sigler, William Sigler and wife Pat, James Sigler and wife Bev, Hank Sigler and wife Bev, Tom Sigler and wife Carol, Carl Sigler and wife Judy, Bonnie Amend and husband Steven, Kathy Ewald and husband Leroy, Wanda Balou and husband Jon, Annie Gonzalez, Mary Martin and husband Barry, and Georgia Will and husband Armand.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack N. Schmidt; one son, Jeff Schmidt; two sisters; and four brothers.
