KEOTA ? Joye DeLong, 87, of Washington, formerly of West Chester, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 17, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota with the Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. DeLong was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Washington, the daughter of Howard and Bessie Wright. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald DeLong, on May 13, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in West Chester.
She graduated from West Chester High School. She and her husband lived in West Chester, where they owned and operated the DeLong Lumber Company. She was a member of the West Chester United Methodist Church. She had a long career as a teller and manager for Washington State Bank and Farmers Savings Bank in Keota. While raising her family, she spent her free time volunteering in the West Chester community. She enjoyed conversing with and writing letters to her family, antiquing, genealogy, ice cream socials, making and sewing clothes for dolls, and spending the winter months in Florida.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald, of Washington; one son, Michael DeLong of Des Moines; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean; and two sons, Mark, and Jeffrey.
