Juanita "Blondie" Gholosn, 96, of Mount Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mount Pleasant.
Blondie was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Rome, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Othel Beaber Nau. She attended rural schools and graduated from the Mount Pleasant High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Woodrow William Wehrle on May 25, 1941, he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1941, in an accident at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. On Sept. 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward F. Gholson, he preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1984.
Blondie worked for the B&H and the Brazelton Cafe, A&P, James Gars Laundry and Dry Cleaners during the war, Sheaffer Pen in Mount Pleasant, Walker Grocery Store and retired after 24 years from Hy-Vee in Mount Pleasant. Following her retirement, she worked part-time at the Mount Pleasant Moose Lodge and the Mount Pleasant V.F.W. Club. She was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant and was a board member of the Salem Crew Public Library.
She is survived by her children, Sue Wehrle Chiodo of Urbandale, Robert Lee Gholson of Mount Pleasant and Dennis D. Gholson of New London; five grandchildren, Michael Chiodo, Lisa Chiodo, Terry Gholson, Travis Gholson and Brandy Gholson; three great-grandchildren, Brady Gholson, Morgan Gholson and Madsyn Gholson; and one sister, Debbie Cooksey of Mount Pleasant.
Blondie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three brothers, "Doc," Merton and Deane; and three sisters, Betty Septer, Joan Vasquez and Evelyn Nau.
A Requiem Holy Eucharist will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Kenneth Messer and the Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the Church.
Memorials may be directed to the Oakland Mills Cemetery, Salem Crew Public Library or to St. Michael's Episcopal Church in her memory.
