KEOTA ? Judith Ann ?Judy? Norenberg, 70, of McHenry, Mississippi, formerly of Keota, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the United Church of Faith in Keota with the Rev. Mike Druhl officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Duke University Medical Center, DUMC 3624, Durham, NC 27710; or to P.E.O., Miriam Scarborough Scholarship Fund, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312. Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home in Keota.
Mrs. Norenberg was born Jan. 16, 1946, in Washington, the daughter of Richard and Helen Mayer. She married Gary L. Norenberg on June 26, 1965, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Keota.
She graduated from Keota High School and completed higher education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. As her husband was in active duty in the Air Force and stationed in Germany, she was on a plane headed to a foreign country to start married life. For the next 25 years she traveled the world with her husband, raised two children, and had a professional career. She made a career working for the Department of Defense, Civil Service as an administrative professional. She retired after serving more than 20 honorable years for the United States government. She was an active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.). This P.E.O. Sisterhood is an organization where women celebrate the advancement of women through education, scholarships, grants and stewardship of Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. She held various officer positions at both the local and the state levels, culminating with the most recent, being elected and installed as organizer of the state chapter in Mississippi. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and crafting in her leisure time.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Gary L.; one daughter, Gina M. Burnham; one son, Lance R. Norenberg and wife Ursula; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeri L. Bullis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Woodrow and Helen Ruth (Herr) Mayer.
