Judy Bush, age 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died at Mercy Hospital following complications from heart surgery on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Services: 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2202 Forest Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa by the Reverend John M. Dolde with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, Sisley Grove Road SW Cedar Rapids. Friends visited with the family on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, and on Monday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Judy was a faithful mom and is survived by her sons, David Bush of Hiawatha and Michael Bush of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her brother, Richard (Dick) Schaefer of Williamsburg and her sister-
in-law, Susan Schaefer of North English. Judy is also survived by her great friend, a German shorthaired pointer named Devine. She is also survived by her many friends, including those at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Bush, her parents, Raymond and Florence Schaefer, and brother, Duane Schafer, all formerly of Williamsburg, Iowa, and she has now joined them with her lord in Heaven.
Judy was born April 5, 1943, in Williamsburg, Iowa, and graduated from Williamsburg High School. She married Karl Bush on April 24, 1965 in Williamsburg. Judy retired in 1999 after 25 years with Terracon Consultants in Cedar Rapids where she performed administrative and human resources duties.
Judy truly led a life of good works and divine service and was an example to other Christians. She was a 59-year member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids where she served in various capacities with the church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), accountancy team, funeral luncheon team, Lutherans for Life Group, and Bible Study group
Judy was an active participant in life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Judy loved to travel and visited many parts of the world with Karl and her sons. Judy was a successful gardener and arborist, and a tremendous cook/baker. She enjoyed golf, snow skiing, and boating/fishing with Karl before his passing. Judy loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid fan rarely missing a basketball or football game and assisting son Michael with his Hawkeyes collection. She also loved to spend time daily with her two sons and her German Shorthair Pointer friend Devine.
The family would like to thank the medical professionals at Mercy Medical Center’s ICU for the outstanding care of Judy in her final 2 weeks of life.
