Judy Rae (Shafer) Manning, 80, of Bertram, Texas, (formerly Wayland, Iowa) died Sunday, February 5, 2023, at St. David’s Hospital, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Following the funeral, burial will be at the Cottonwood Methodist Church in Wayland. A meal will follow the burial at Wayland Mennonite Church, Wayland, Iowa. The service will be livestreamed to the Beatty-Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages.

Judy was born on June 8, 1942, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Beatrice Shafer. She attended school in Washington, Iowa. On June 22, 1958, she married Lyle Manning at Coppock Christian Church. She was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church. She worked at McCleery Cummings in Washington for many years. She later had a childcare service in her home in Wayland, Iowa. Judy loved working outside with her husband Lyle. She spent many hours in her garden and taking care of her flowers. Judy was an avid quilter and enjoyed making both quilts and comforters for both family and friends. Judy spent time making blankets for the Children’s Miracle Network and Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her brother, Bud Shafer.

Judy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lyle Manning, of Bertram, Texas; three children, Lyle Jr. (JoDee) Manning of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Teresa (Darrell) Tank of Bertram, Texas, and Brenda (Robert) Sears of Wayland, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her brother, George (Bud) Shafer of Washington, Iowa.

Preceding Judy in death were her infant son and daughter, her parents, two brothers and six sisters.
