Karen was born July 14, 1961, in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Pothoven) VanderHart. She graduated from Pella High School in 1979 and from the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1983. Karen was united in marriage to Ron Dillon on June 16, 1984 in Pella. She spent much of her time serving others through her work as a Registered Nurse at the University of Iowa for over 40 years and her mission work through the United Presbyterian Church.
Karen’s favorite way to spend time was with family, whether it was game nights, baking Dutch letters, or cuddling her granddaughters. She never missed any of her kids’ plays, games or competitions. Her hobbies included making salsa, crafting and volunteering in the community. She was a loyal friend, incredible nurse, and most importantly, an amazing wife, mom and oma.
Karen is survived by her husband, Ron of West Chester; children, Anne (Jordan) Youngman of Kalona, Beth (Ben) Clark of Grimes, John (Anne) Dillon of Des Moines and Michael (Andrea) Dillon of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Jayden Youngman and Ella Clark; brothers, Loren and Duane VanderHart; and sister, Sheryl Dickinson.
Karen will be greeted in Heaven by her parents, Harold and Gladys VanderHart; son, Brian Dillon; and parents-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Dillon.
