Karen was born July 11, 1945, in Douglas, Arizona, the daughter of Lloyd Merrill and Lois Adeline (Hanna) Coon. She attended grade school in Arizona and graduated high school in Ainsworth, Iowa. Karen was united in marriage to Samuel Howard Stapp on July 14, 1965, in Ballston Spa, New York. Karen and Sam lived many places prior to moving to Wapello, Iowa, in 1995.
Karen worked at Wal-Mart for many years. Karen enjoyed being with family and friends. We all remember the games of Yahtzee, Bump off and Croquet in Crawfordsville. She wasn’t a fan of fish but always loved a fish fry at home with a few friends or the big Stapp get-togethers at Langwood. She loved all things 50s and 60s, especially the music. The TV channel didn’t change if she was watching Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, or game shows. As most of us know she liked her bacon crispy. Hopefully, Heaven got the memo.
Karen is survived by her husband, Sam Stapp of Wapello, Iowa; children: Mike Stapp and wife Melissa of Joliet, Illinois; Kevin Stapp of Thailand; Rob Stapp of Wheaton, Illinois; four grandchildren: Sam, Will, Kate and Jacee; sister, Carmen Kay Summarsell of Hartland, Vermont; brother, Ronald Merrill Coon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother Terrell Lee Coon and wife Debra of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother-in-law, Dick Summarsell.
