Karla Kay Schafer 58, of Brighton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 31, 2021, after a

2-year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Karla was born on August 17, 1963, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of George A. and Lorna J. (Graff) Wesely. She graduated from Fairfield High School in the class of 1981. Karla was united in marriage to Troy Cheney at the Brighton Community Church. Karla was an amazing person, she loved her family, spoiling her grandchildren, cooking, baking, playing cards and board games. She always enjoyed talking with family and friends and watching the Brenda Ganett cooking show. She loved cats and anything that was about cats. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Karla was the former senior Coordinator at Cambridge Investment Research Inc. of Fairfield. She was a member of the Brighton Community Church.

Karla is survived by her husband, Troy of Brighton; her children, Cliff (Kelley) Schafer of Burnsville, Minnesota, Joe (Stephanie) Schafer of Fairfield, and Terry (Sable) Wells of Fairfield; her grandchildren, Allison, Bethany, Finn, Henry and Mavis; and her brothers, Mike (Marsha) Wesely of Lockridge, Dan (Kay) Wesely of Salem, Dennis (Julie) Wesely and Curtis Wesely, all of Lockridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jackie McLachlan.

A celebration of Karla's life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2021, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brighton Community Church, in Brighton, Iowa. A memorial has been established in her memory. According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
