Katherine "Kay" Williams was born on August 12, 1937 in Winfield, IA to John W. and Anna Kester Singsheim. She attended school in Winfield, IA and learned the value of hard work at an early age. Kay married Daryl Wellington and together they had four daughters: Peggy, Vicky, Debbie, and Cathy. The two later divorced and she married Raymond Thompson. To this union three children were born: Danny, Brenda, and Tony. During this time, she moved to Batavia, IA which she would call home for the remainder of her life. On July 9, 1983 Kay married Gene Williams in Burlington, IA. Together they traveled and enjoyed each other's company. Kay always worked hard helping on the family farm and then as an in-home caregiver. She worked caring for others for many years until her health would no longer allow it. She took her struggles with her health in stride and always was moving forward. Kay loved to garden and take care of her home. Everything always had its place and there was not a speck of dust. She was an active member of the Living Hope Bible Church, where she enjoyed participating in church activities.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene Williams (1999); two daughters, Vicky Wellington and Debbie Allender, as well as three siblings, Mary Anna Greiner, Barbra Clark and Paula Stouffer.
Left to share her story are her children, Peggy Wellington of Ottumwa, IA, Cathy Wellington of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Danny Thompson and Gina of Corydon, IA, Brenda Thompson and Tom of Moravia, IA and Tony Thompson and Tracy of Batavia, IA, as well as fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends. The family also would like to express their sincere thank-you to Vonda Sammons for not only being a wonderful caregiver to Kay, but also a loving friend.
