Kathleen Cheney

TOLONO, Ill. ? Kathleen H. Cheney, 79, of Tolono, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in Amber Rose in Tolono.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 20, at Freese Funeral Home in Tolono, Illinois, with the Rev. Al Simonson officiating. Burial will be at Bailey Memorial Cemetery in Tolono. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tolono Volunteer Fire Department or Tolono United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cheney was born March 21, 1938, in Des Moines, the daughter of Edith Humphrey.

She was raised by Wilbur and Lola Back-Cheney of Williamsburg. She taught in Oregon, Illinois, for two years; at Amboy, Illinois, for nine years; and then finished her teaching career at Tolono Unit 7 after teaching there for 23 years. She attended Central College in Pella. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Brethren Church of North English, and also attended Tolono United Methodist Church. She was inducted into the Unity Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

Surviving are one brother, Merrill Cheney and wife Sue of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and one brother.
