Kathleen Kay Jones was born September 18, 1950, at Miller’s Hospital in Williamsburg, the daughter of Willard and Marjorie (Leahy) Zuber. She attended St. John's Lutheran School, graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1968, and was a 1972 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. Kathy was united in marriage to David N. Jones on October 20, 1973, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Homestead. Kathy was a first-grade teacher, teaching at English Valley Elementary, Williamsburg Elementary and later Parnell School as a computer lab teacher. She also had a blanket shop on Etsy and built websites for various local businesses and entities. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, taking pictures and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and had served as an elder and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. Kathy passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Highland Ridge Care Center at the age of 74 years.
She is survived by her husband David; four children, Megan (Matt) Schiebel of Washington, Beth (Tony) Runkle of Bettendorf, Ryan (Kasey) Jones of Conroy and Abby (Andy) Meyer of Swisher; 11 grandchildren, Grace, Luke and Callie Schiebel; Boone and Tate Runkle; Maiha, Natalie and Nolan Jones; and Noah, Ellie and Will Meyer; a brother, Larry (Fran) Zuber of North Liberty; two sisters, Karen Kirks of Scotch Grove and Marty Gahring of Georgia and a sister-in-law, Barbara Zuber of Williamsburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard Zuber and Dale Zuber, a sister-in-law Ruth Zuber and a brother-in-law Max Dirks.
Funeral Services were held 10:30 am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation was held Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. Burial is at the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Essence of Life Hospice or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
