Kathryn Ann Dickinson, 91, of Brighton, Iowa, died early Monday, February 26, 2024, at Washington County Hospital, Washington, Iowa. She was born on February 23, 1933, at home near Brighton to Frank A. “Tot” and Nettie J. (Mosinski) Chuck. She graduated as class valedictorian from Brighton High School in 1951. Kathryn worked at the Burlington Ordinance Plant making shells for the war. She was also a bookkeeper at the Brighton Creamery, prepared income taxes for the Brighton lawyer before becoming a farmer, and was a member of Sts. Joseph & Cabrini Catholic Church. Kathryn married Ralph “Dubs” Dickinson on December 27, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa.
Kathryn’s greatest accomplishment was the family that she and Dubs built; their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Spending time with them and encouraging them brought her so much joy. She was smart and intellectually curious, rarely forgetting something once she learned it. She was extremely creative and witty and used those to challenge others. She loved getting the family together for events, especially Christmas, when she would challenge everyone with scavenger hunts, hidden gifts and brain teasers which left lifelong memories. She enjoyed coffee and bridge club with her friends, golfing, sewing, baking, playing card games with her family and watching Iowa Hawkeyes basketball. She was actively involved in the farming operation and ran a tight ship for almost 7 decades.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters: Laura Kohnert of Urbandale, Iowa; Kaye Stewart of Washington, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Scott Kohnert, Katie (Kohnert) O’Donnell, Kelly Dickinson, Kayla (Dickinson) Heath, Steve Stewart and Lisa (Stewart) Holts; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Jeff Dickinson, four brothers: Ed, Norbert “Mim,” John and Frank Jr. Chuck and one sister: Teresa “Treke” Mottet.
Visitation: Monday, March 4, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 11 A.M. with Father Lou Leonhardt officiating at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery Association may be left at the church or mailed to Family of Kathryn Dickinson, 619 W Main St, Washington, IA 52353. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
