Kathryn Louise Deutsch was born on June 26, 1936, in Pleasant Plain, IA, the daughter of Donald and Alice Kent Leppert. She attended school in Pleasant Plain, graduating with the high school class of 1954. It was high school where she met the love of her life, Joseph Deutsch. The two began their journey together as husband and wife on February 4, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted over 66 years. Together they became the loving parents of 7 children.
Kathryn was a proud member of SS Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain and St. Mary in Fairfield, serving on the Alter & Rosary Club for many years. She was also an active member of the Busy Bees Ladies Group in East Pleasant Plain and enjoyed many happy times participating in a bowling league with her late husband, Joe, and their friends. Kathryn's work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in hospitals in both Burlington and Washington demonstrated her dedication to serving others, but her favorite job was undoubtedly raising her children and being a homemaker. As a farmwife, she worked alongside Joe with all the aspects of the farming operation, helping with anything that was needed.
A talented cook and baker, Kathryn loved cooking for family events and had her special recipes that will be cherished by her loved ones. She was an avid supporter of Iowa Hawkeye sports, trying to catch any game that she could. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will remain in the hearts of her family and the many friends she met along the way.
Kathyrn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Deutsch Jr.; a son, Scott Deutsch and three siblings, Keith Leppert, Donna Jean Krewson, and Judy Eddy.
She is survived by her children, Kirk (Shelley) Deutsch of Tiffin, IA, Kraig (Cathy) Deutsch of Packwood, IA, Paula (John) Hecox of Auburn Hills, MI, Don (Kim) Deutsch of Ollie, IA, Carla (Brian) Stone of Kalona, IA, and Gina (Andrew) Wells of Fairfield, IA; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; two siblings, Janet (Mike) Langan and Kermit Leppert, as well as many extended family and friends.
