Kennedy Elise Parkin-Stover, age 13, of Washington, Iowa, chose to end her life on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.
Funeral Services to celebrate Kennedy's life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Erin Kaye officiating. The family will
be present to receive friends from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m Sunday at the church. The family is strongly encouraging mask usage by all attendees. Services will be livestreamed on the Jones & Eden Facebook page and the United Presbyterian Church Facebook Page. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established for Grace C Mae Advocate Center. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Kennedy was born May 1, 2008, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Kyle Parkin and Ashley Stover. Kennedy was an eighth grader at Washington Middle School where she was on the school volleyball team. Kennedy loved cats and dogs and would often take her cat, Pumpkin, on roller blade rides in her cat backpack. She enjoyed going to hockey games and attending water parks. Kennedy loved to travel and was very excited when she learned to downhill ski. She was confident and fearless in everything she did and she had a great sense of humor. Kennedy especially loved singing and performing for her family and friends. She received first place at the 2020 Middle School Talent Show, an honor she was very proud of. She loved spending time with family and friends and was a wonderful big sister to her little brother, Rowan.
She is survived by her mother, Ashley Stover and stepdad, Brian Wingler of Washington, Iowa; father, Kyle Parkin and significant other, Melanie Weaver of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Rowan Wingler of Washington, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Duane and Theresa Gugel of Coralville, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Gene and Annette Parkin of Iowa City, Iowa; stepgrandparents, John and Laura Wingler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandmother, Dolly Gugel of Mandan, North Dakota; and stepgreat-grandmother, Kay Gavin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kennedy is also survived by her uncle, Eric Parkin of Los Angeles, California; aunt, Molly Gugel of Ames, Iowa; uncle, Michael Gugel of Coralville, Iowa; uncle, Danny Wingler of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
