Kenneth E. 'Metz' Metzger

Kenneth "Metz" E. Metzger, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Regan Stoops officiating. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Murphy Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Metz was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Earl and Juanita Mae Craig Cook. He enlisted in the Navy and was later medically discharged. He was united in marriage to Ina Bauman on Aug. 4, 1968 in Sigourney. They later divorced. He worked for Henry County Highway Department of Secondary Roads as a surveyor for 46 years, surveying nearly every county road and bridge in Henry county until his retirement in 1992. In addition, he was co-owner of Duck Pin Bowling Alley in Mt. Pleasant for several years, and had also worked at Iowa Wesleyan College as a night custodian.
