ALBERTVILLE, Ala. ? Kenneth ?Bud? Stephen Kron, 93, of Guntersville, Alabama, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, in Shepherd?s Cove Hospice in Albertville, Alabama.
Burial took place on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Albertville Memorial Memory Gardens in Albertville. The family requests any memorials to be directed to the Guntersville Methodist Church Choir of Guntersville, Alabama, or the Shepherd?s Cove Hospice of Albertville, Alabama. The Albertville Memorial Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Albertville was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kron was born April 29, 1923, in Riverside, the oldest child of Hubert and Nora Staley (Cambridge) Kron. He married Antoinette ?Toni? Fisher on March 14, 1949, in Riverside.
A veteran of World War II, he served as an Army Air Corps sergeant in the Pacific Theater in air-sea rescue. He was employed by Cargill Inc. for 37 years as a production supervisor and assistant superintendent. Mr. Kron retired from Cargill Inc. in Washington in 1983, and retired to Alabama. Both he and his wife were always willing to help neighbors and friends. He was known as a man who often put others ahead of himself, helping in any way he could, from mowing lawns, to fixing things in his workshop, to helping with club projects. He served as a church elder, and was a member of the Jaycees and the Foster Parent Association while in Iowa. Over a 15-year period, he and his wife provided a home for 21 foster children. While in Alabama, he continued in community endeavors as a member of the Guntersville Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Guntersville Lions Club. His Lions Club awards included Lion of the Year in 1989, and four Presidential Awards for Most Valuable Lion of the Year. He also volunteered his time for the Lions by working at eye clinics and many fundraisers. He served as a Hospice volunteer when Hospice first opened in Marshall County, Alabama, helping with maintenance of its office. He loved to fish, was good at it and shared his catch with his friends. He made canned jellies with his daughter and generously shared them with friends. He loved woodworking, and repaired all kinds of small engines in a small shed at the end of his driveway. He could repair almost anything.
Surviving are his wife, Toni; three sons, Ed Jensen and wife Elaine of Monroe, Washington, Robert of Algona, and Larry of Rialto, California; one daughter, Marsha and husband Robert of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Anita Mehaffey of Vemillion, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer Kron; and two sisters, Thelma Fox, and Vivian Woodley; and one infant daughter, Karma Kay.
