Kenneth Lloyd Fischer, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Kenny was born March 13, 1932 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of Carl William and Hilda Marie (Wiegard) Fischer. He grew up in Donnellson and graduated from Donnellson High School. On August 16, 1953 in Washington, IA, Kenny was united in marriage to Donna Jean Gingerich.
Kenny served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. He served as an Engineman C-1 on the USS PC 1546. Ken was honorably discharged on January 20, 1956. He remained in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1960. During that time, the couple made their home in the St. Louis, MO area where Kenny was employed at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corp. In 1960, the couple moved to the Henry County area where Kenny was a 42-year employee of the Peterson Family Farm/Loyadell Farms.
Kenny was a member of the Spring Grove United Methodist Church. Previously, he was an active member in the Olds United Church of Christ. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion Post #626 of Olds, serving on the Honor Guard. He volunteered at Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in many capacities, often running the ground trains and working the American Legion’s Pancake House.
Kenny was active in the Boy Scouts organization as a leader for Boy Scout Troop 32 and Cub Scout Pack 32. He served as a Commissioner of the Boy Scout Council and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Ken also volunteered many hours at HACAP Head Start and the Mt. Pleasant Christian School.
Kenny cherished his friends, neighbors, and family. He stayed in touch with his Navy buddies for decades. He enjoyed talking about farming, telling stories, and jokes over multiple cups of coffee to anyone who would listen. He knew no stranger. Kenny was a do-it-yourselfer, a talented wood worker, including cradles for new babies and a pine wood derby track for the scouts. He enjoyed raising livestock on his acreage, reading history books and watching old Westerns. He loved to tease his families and friends and travel to Colorado to visit his kids. Kenny was a simple and modest man of many talents who will be missed.
Those thankful for sharing in Kenny’s life include his wife of 72 years, Donna of Mt. Pleasant; his children – Timothy (Susan) Fischer of Arvada, CO, Todd (LuAnn) Fischer of Winfield, IA and Tami (Greg) Fischer of Englewood, CO; grandchildren – Joel (Patti) Vandenberg, Wade (Calie) Fischer, Rebecca Fischer and Brooks Aden; and three great-grandchildren – Kiya, Jett and Jade Vandenberg.
His parents, two aunts, and a grandson, Sam Aden, precede Kenny in death.
Kenneth has donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. A Celebration of Life will be held at a day, time and location to be determined.
Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Van Vorhies Haus or the Spring Grove United Methodist Church.
