Larry R. Brewster, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died
Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service for Mr. Brewster will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant. Pastor Jeffrey A. McPheron of the Trenton United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, with graveside military honors conducted by Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. A public Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Mount Pleasant Lodge #8 AF & AM. Those considering an expression of sympathy, may direct memorials to the Richwoods Cemetery Association.
Larry Richard Brewster was born Dec. 8, 1947, in Washington, Iowa. He was the son of Warren and Pauline Violet (Gill) Brewster. Larry graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1966. He studied at Southeastern Community College in Burlington and graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield in 1970 with a B.A. in business administration.
After graduation from Parsons, Larry entered the U.S. Army. He was inducted on Aug. 24, 1970, at Camp Dodge in Des Moines. He served for a time in Germany. He was honorably discharged as an SP-5 at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on March 2, 1972.
Larry had a long career with the United States Postal Service. He was the bulk mailing clerk at Alaniz Printing, was a rural letter carrier and was also a clerk at the Mount Pleasant Post Office.
Larry was a member and past officer of the Mount Pleasant Lodge #8 AF & AM. He was a member of the American Legion and had served as the commander of the former American Legion Post of Trenton, Iowa. Larry took on the responsibility of decorating the veterans' graves in Green Mound, White Oak and Messer cemeteries. He served on the board of the Richwood Cemetery Association. Larry was a longtime member of the Wayland Tractor Club and the Big Creek Tractor Club, as he had his father's 1951 WD Allis Chalmers tractor restored. Larry enjoyed hunting deer on the family land.
Larry is survived by his brother, Charles of Mount Pleasant.
His parents and an infant sister, Kay Ann Brewster, preceded him in death.
