Larry Chapman Sr.
Larry Joseph Chapman Sr., 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, in El Paso, Texas.
Graveside services have been set for 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with full military honors. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. A general memorial has been established.
Mr. Chapman was born Nov. 8, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Erma Maxine (Cooper) Chapman. He married Sherly Brown on Oct. 4, 1964. The couple later divorced. He later married Linda Harness in 1980.
He enlisted in the Army and served during Vietnam for two years. He moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1983, where he was a barber at the Air Force base and later owned and operated a janitorial business. He was also a barber in Iowa for several years, as well as other various jobs. He was an active member of the VFW, CMA, and CAPP, and enjoyed racing stock cars in New Mexico.
Surviving are three children, Sue Ann Flaherty and husband Micheal of Las Vegas, Nevada, Larry Chapman Jr. and wife Mindy of DeWitt, and Angie Bodkin and husband Jake of Washington; stepchildren, Jeff Seivers, Philip Seivers, Christine, and Doris; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Chapman and wife Judy of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and one grandson.
