Larry Joe Cook was born on August 30, 1939, in Fairfield, IA, to Wilbur and Marguerite Bradley Cook. His love for fixing things and working with his hands began at an early age. After graduating from Fairfield High School, he began working on, and racing Midget cars. Larry owned and operated Cook's Auto Repair in Fairfield and began working at the Ammunition Plant where he joined the Army National Guard and became a mechanic. This began a career with the Guard that lasted almost 30 years and saw time spent in active duty during Desert Storm. His relationship he made during this time would be maintained and cherished for the rest of his life. Upon retirement from the National Guard, he spent time traveling and attending antique shows with his buddies. He maintained his love of fixing and repairing by working on old cars and tractors in his free time. Larry loved his family, especially his grandchildren and was very proud of them. He cared deeply for his country and his community. His presence will be missed, but not forgotten.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Merle Cook; and two brothers, Don and Bill Cook.
Left to share his story is his daughter, Jodie (Lonnie) Borts of Colfax, IA; three grandchildren, Jessica Borts, Terra (Chris) Webb and Dustin (Wendy) Cook; two dear friends, Jim Lane and Terry Bonnett; as well as many extended family and friends.
