Larry Lee Skinner, 75, of Ottumwa, died at 3:41 p.m. October 21, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born April 26, 1946, in Ottumwa, to Laurence and Phyllis M. Gott Skinner. Larry married Dixie Lee Stufflebeam on December 7, 1968.
Growing up in Ottumwa and Arizona, Larry served with the US Navy during Vietnam from 1965-69. He also served with the Iowa Army National Guard.
He worked as a pressman for the Ottumwa Courier for 2 years and then worked for the Fairfield Ledger for 41 1/2 years.
Larry was a member of Post 2271 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1927 both in Fairfield. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Dixie; their children, Wendi Skinner of Ottumwa, Shawn (Liz) Skinner of Louisville, KY, and Drew Elizabeth Skinner (Rodney Long Jr.) of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren, Noah, Scarlet, Marion, Christian, Jasmine, Heaven, Cameron and Keaton; 2 great-grandchildren, Josiah and Bentley; siblings, Florence (James) Clark of Ottumwa, Leslie (Michael) Rounceville of Henderson, NC, Rita (Tom) Reid of Iowa City, Kristie (Richard) Conley and Tammie (Jerry) Bainbridge, both of Ottumwa; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Skinner of Sterling, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence Skinner; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Earl Blanchard; and a brother, Dennis Skinner.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday, October 25, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post 3 American Legion. For those unable to attend the service, it may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Frankie's Friends through BluePearl Animal Hospital in Des Moines.
