Laura Ann Calvert, 56, formerly of Fairfield, died from cancer Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, in Purcell, Okla.
A memorial service was Dec. 4 in Fairfield. The funeral was Dec. 6 in Purcell.

Ms. Calvert was born Aug. 24, 1949, in Purcell, the daughter of Tom and June Calvert.
She received a bachelor's degree in education from University of Oklahoma in 1971 and became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation in 1973.
She lived in Fairfield off and on since 1974. She frequently visited Fairfield while she resided in Oklahoma or in Austin, Texas, where she had been chairwoman of the TM Center.
As an executive assistant and legal secretary at Maharishi International University in Santa Barbara, Calif., and Fairfield from 1974-1976, she helped MIU, now Maharishi University of Management, gain full accreditation.
She also had worked in Los Angeles, Calif., at the national headquarters for the Transcendental Meditation organization in the late 1970s, earned a master's degree in journalism from University of Oklahoma and attended a TM Transcendental Meditation residential program in North Carolina for women. She was previously employed as a legal secretary at Telegroup in Fairfield and also was a freelance photographer in Fairfield and Austin.
Ms. Calvert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell since 1958.
Survivors include her parents; and two brothers, Thomas A. Calvert and Bob Calvert, both of Purcell.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Jay Calvert.
