Lauren J. Sloan
Lauren James Sloan, 65, of West Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 14, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
His body has been cremated. A memorial service was held today, Feb. 19, at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Kendall Adams officiating and military rites conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A general memorial has been established.
He was born June 10, 1942 in Washington, the son of James and Marie Swan Sloan Crane. On July 5, 1996, he married Lynn Duncan in Burlington.
A veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, he served in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm, retiring at the rank of Sr. Warrant Officer. He was a supervisor at Iowa Southern Utilities (Alliant) for 37 years, retiring in 1999.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, Jeff Sloan and his wife Kellie of Mt. Pleasant and Jamie Sloan and his wife Polly of Fairfield; two daughters, Lauri Sloan of Mt. Pleasant and Brianne Duncan of West Burlington; two brothers, Wray Sloan and his wife Yvonne of Mt. Pleasant and Frank Sloan and his wife Pace of Washington D.C.; two sisters, Joyce Smith and her husband Robert of Clarence and Judith Cline of Mississippi; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His mother and brother Johnny preceded him in death.
