Lee B. 'Tooley' Honts
Lee B. "Tooley" Honts, 81, of Burlington, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Burlington, with the Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating. Burial will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by VFW posts #10102 and #9162, American Legion post #52, and the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with family present after 6:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
Mr. Honts was born Oct. 16, 1921 in Winfield, the son of Fred and Bessie Craig Honts. He was a 1940 graduate of Winfield High School, and he was a World War II Marine Corps veteran. He married Virginia Gruver Nov. 23, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a teamster, working for 21 years at Atlas Warehouse and ten years at Arledge Freight, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Burlington, the Hawkeye Woodcarvers Club and the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. He was also a former scoutmaster for Boy Scout troop #45 from 1954 to 1969.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Honts of Waterloo and Vincent Honts of Bettendorf; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
