Leigh Ann Huser, age 62, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Leigh Ann Wettach was born on August 10, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the fourth of five children to parents Robert and Betty (Preuss) Wettach. She grew up and attended school in Mt. Pleasant, where she graduated in 1979. Leigh Ann continued her education by attending Luther College in Decorah, IA. She graduated in 1983 with her teaching degree.
Growing up, Leigh Ann played several sports in school. She played basketball and softball and excelled in track. She also ran track while at Luther and was a member of Tau Delta Gamma Sorority. Leigh Ann came from a very musical family; she played the flute. Her father, a general practice doctor, served a sabbatical in Puerto Rico one summer, and the whole family went along. This was quite the experience for her, and she often spoke of the time spent there. Leigh Ann began her teaching career in Sac City before accepting a position in Kalona, IA, where she taught for a few years before returning to Sac City to teach.
On December 17, 1988, Leigh Ann was united in marriage to Paul Huser at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. This union was blessed with a daughter, Chloe. 5 months after the birth of Chloe, Leigh Ann was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor that she would undergo surgery for and became a 33-year cancer survivor. While this may have slowed things down for her, she continued to do all that she loved as often as she could. Leigh Ann retired from teaching in 2009. She was an active member of PEO and helped the women’s group at church.
Leigh Ann and Paul enjoyed traveling together over the years. They made many trips to Sanibel Island, even during some of Leigh Ann’s most fragile times, and Paul was always right there by her side. When Chloe studied abroad in London, England, they visited her there and traveled to France, Switzerland, Austria & Germany. They also took trips to Hawaii, the Cayman Islands, Cancun, and Arizona, just to name a few.
Leigh Ann was an AVID St. Louis Cardinals fan. Growing up, her parents would take her and her siblings to home games in St. Louis. This is where it all started for Leigh Ann. As an adult, she rarely missed a game on TV and attended many games in person with her mom and sister every summer.
Becoming a grandma was one of the biggest highlights of Leigh Ann’s life. She adored her granddaughters, Olive and Willow, and treasured every moment she could spend with them. She loved spending time with family and always looked forward to family get-togethers at the lake house in Twin Lakes. Most Sundays were spent there, as well as spring and summer holidays. Leigh Ann is greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Rest assured, she is looking down on all of her loved ones, still so very proud of them and now free of all pain. May she rest in God’s beautiful paradise forever.
Leigh Ann leaves behind her husband, Paul Huser of Sac City, IA; daughter Chloe (Jim) Wallace of Lake View, IA; granddaughters Olive and Willow Wallace; brothers Dr. Steve (Dr. Mary) Wettach of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dr. David (Sandy) Wettach of Muscatine, IA, and Jeff (Barb) Wettach of Decorah, IA; sister Jody Wettach of Urbandale, IA; brothers-in-law Tim (Marti) Huser of Sac City, IA, and David (Gail) Huser of Waverly, IA; sister-in-law Becky (David) Barclay of Story City, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Robert and Betty Wettach, and parents-in-law Ted and Rachel Huser.
Leigh Ann’s family would like to thank all of the in-home care workers that cared for her over the past three years as well as everyone from the Gentiva Hospice team that cared for and got to know Leigh Ann this past year. They are so grateful for the wonderful, gentle, and heartfelt care Leigh Ann received.
