WELLMAN ? Leo Roy ?Chub? Hall, 91, of Iowa City, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, in Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Champion Hill Cemetery in rural Wellman. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time, Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and the Mid-Prairie Community School District Foundation.
Mr. Hall was born Feb. 18, 1925, in rural Wellman, the son of Ora and Bertha (Wade) Hall. He married Martha England on May 24, 1946, in rural Wellman.
He attended Wellman High School. He served in the Army during World War II with the 1138th Combat Engineers Company in the Pacific Theater and the Army of Occupation in Japan. He and his wife made their home in Wellman. He started as a mechanic at Wade Ford in 1946 and became owner of the dealership in 1964. He retired in 2000 after 54 years at the dealership. He and his wife moved to Iowa City in 2012. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Polton American Legion, and former member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, Wellman Community Club and Wellman Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Martha of Iowa City; one son, Tom Hall and wife Jeanette of Chesterfield, Missouri; one daughter, Pam Moore and husband Tom of Iowa City; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Cathy Jane Hall; one brother, Cleo ?Bus? Hall; and four sisters, Mina Debler, Eloise Swink, Joanne Hall, and Virginia Hall.
