Leo J. Sueppel Jr.

Leo John Sueppel Jr., 80, of Washington, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, in Halcyon House in Washington.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with the Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. A memorial fund has been established for St. James Catholic School. The Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is handling arrangements.

Mr. Sueppel was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Washington, the s on of Leo J. and Lena Sueppel. He married Joan L. Wood in 1966.

He graduated from St. James Elementary and Washington High School. He served in the Army National Guard. In 1955 he began working with his father at Sueppel?s 66 Service Station, and took over ownership in 1960. He was a long-standing businessman in the community, and the service station and his customers gave him great joy. In an article in the newspaper in 1990 he stated, ?It?s my life, my livelihood and what I love to do. This has been a home place for many, many years.? He loved spending time with his wife. He was known as a loving uncle and a loving husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed Sueppel, one sister, Vivian; and his wife, Joan, on Feb. 5, 2014.
