SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? Leo Ralph Palmer, 94, formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Diego, California. Burial was at the El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
Mr. Palmer was born Dec. 16, 1921, in North English, the son of Ralph Bower Palmer and Ethel May Nevin Crawford, in North English. He married Gladys Powell on Nov. 7, 1947. She preceded him in death, on Nov. 23, 2002. He married Merrlyn Jackman Hughes on Oct. 16, 2004. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2016.
He and his two younger brothers, Willard, and Richard Wayne, grew up on a farm in Washington. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served on the submarine Sea Cat until the end of World War II. In 1965 he retired from the Navy as a master chief petty officer, and began a successful second career as an agent with Acacia Mutual Life.
Surviving are two children; four stepchildren; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law; and one granddaughter-in-law.
