Leon H. Cartwright, 87, of Batavia, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Jefferson County Health Care Center. As were his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Leon's honor may be directed to the Heartland Humane Society. Leon H. Cartwright was born on December 12, 1933, in rural Sheldon, MO, to Forest Leon Cartwright and Beatrice Harmon Cartwright. He met Blanche Carlisle in Ottumwa, IA, and the two were married on September 24, 1977. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage before Blanche passed away on December 7, 2015. Leon was a graduate of Sheldon High School, Vernon Co. Missouri. He also took Carnegie Courses at Indian Hills Community College. He worked at various jobs as a young man, and then worked 30 years at Farmers Telephone Company. He was instrumental in the Farmers Cellular partnership with U.S. Cellular. Leon and Blanche also owned Cartwright Crafts and Gifts in Batavia for many years. Leon's hobbies included baseball, horseshoes, bowling and music, especially playing the violin.

Leon is survived by one stepson, Dennis Long; two stepgranddaughters, Maggie and Alissa; two step-great-grandson, Theo and Q Young; his friend and caregiver, Janice McVey and many other extended family and friends.
