Leona Blum
Leona Ruth Blum, 93, of Washington, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, in the McCreedy Home in Washington, where she had been a resident for the past 13 years.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the Wellman Public Cemetery around 4 p.m., Thursday. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for a scholarship fund with the Mid-Prairie School.
Mrs. Blum was born July 29, 1923, in Lone Tree, the daughter of Noah Daniel and Mary Margaret (Attig) Beer. She married Donald Otto Blum on Feb. 19, 1949.
She taught at the Prairie Flower School until 1950 and was a substitute teacher in the Mid-Prairie School District until 1979. She belonged to various organizations through the years, both in Wellman and Washington, including the VFW Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge of IOOF, Past Noble Grand, and the Garden Club. She enjoyed growing roses and flowers and teaching the kids.
Surviving are two sons, Dean Blum of Des Moines, and Dale Blum of Memphis, Tennessee; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Dorothea Bare.
