Leonard Dene Andeway, 92, of Richland, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Manor House in Sigourney.
He was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Hedrick, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Ruth (Ulin) Andeway. His family moved to Ladysmith, Wis., for eight years and later moved to Hayesville for two years until lastly moving to Ollie, Iowa, where he graduated with the Class of 1947. He married Marilyn J. Clingan in 1950 at the Oskaloosa Baptist Church. Later, he was united in marriage to Chloe Fritchen on Nov. 23, 1991, at the Ollie Baptist Church. Chloe passed away in 2014. On Aug. 20, 2016, he was united in marriage to Elaine Bekel.
Leonard worked for Kaiser Quarry and also farmed. In 1963, he started Andeway Construction Inc. He built over 300 homes and other numerous jobs. He retired in 1997. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge No. 230 and a member of the Shriners Club. He was also a member of the Ollie Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, mushroom hunting, fishing, playing cards and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Elaine Andeway of Richland; his children, Susan Andeway of Boston, Mass., Jeff (Mary) Andeway of Hedrick and Kelly Andeway of Rubio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Kristi Dyson of North English; five stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; his sisters, Donna Clingan, Judy (Gary) Richard, Linda (Jon) Courtney and Vicky (George) Husk; and a brother, Richard (Janet) Andeway.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Nelson; two brothers, Gilbert Andeway and Alan Andeway; a sister, Mildred "Millie" Lopez; a stepson, Scott Watson; and a stepgrandson, Lincoln Dyson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie with Pastor Shawn Ott officiating. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery in Richland. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, at the Fremont Funeral Chapel beginning at 5 p.m. and the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fremont Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Ollie Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge or United Methodist Church of Richland.
