RIVERSIDE ? Leroy Eugene O?Conner, 87, of Riverside, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, in Oaknoll Health Center in Iowa City.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Riverside with the Rev. David Brownfield, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary?s Parish Center. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside, with a 3 p.m. prayer service. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mr. O?Conner was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Riverside, the son of William and Kathryn (Frank) O?Conner. He married Helena Marie Cooney on Aug. 10, 1949, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Riverside.
He was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary?s High School in Riverside. He was a farmer in the Riverside area his entire life. He was a member of the Riverside Lions Club and a township trustee. He enjoyed socializing with others and helping with the Democratic Party.
Surviving are six children, Patrick O?Conner and wife Chery of Independence, Sue O?Conner Von and husband Ron of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mike O?Conner and wife Christen of Cedar Falls, John O?Conner and wife Penny Johnston of Riverside, Tim O?Conner and wife Laura of North Liberty, and Sara O?Conner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Duwa of Riverside, Kathleen Hernandez of Cedar Rapids, and JoAnn Laures of DeWitt; one brother, William O?Conner of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helena, in 2002; two sisters, Mildred Denton, and Verena Roscoe; and one brother, Bernard O?Conner.
