Lester Dean Farrier

Lester Dean Farrier, 87, passed away at his daughter's house in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lester lived most of his life in Rock Island, Ill. He was born May 14, 1930, to Charles Marion and Tempest Houston Farrier. He loved working in the garden, square dancing and family. He had a giggle that made you laugh.

Les married Shirley Ekland on September 11, 1949, and together they had five children. He later married Betty Miles in 1979 in Arizona.

Children of Lester were Becky Benton of Des Moines, Kathy Farrier of Wedron, Ill., Peg (Brian) Johnson of Serena, Ill., Paula Vadel of Fairfield and Jeff (Sally) Farrier of Eldon. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Tori Tranquilino; three step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Lester's siblings are Marion Jr., Harold (Kay) Farrier of Fairfield, Betty Fahy of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rennie Wakeland, Wanda (Charlie) Lowe, and Joan Norton all of Washington. Kay (Dick) Pohren of Pleasant Plain. Along with his parents he had two brothers pass before him, Gerald and Leo.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Paul Vandel, 1062 170th St., Fairfield, IA 52556. There will be a memorial service in Brighton at the Community Building at 1:00 p.m. on January 27, 2018.
