Letha Irene Statler, 102, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Don Patterson officiating. Calling hours will begin 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Letha was born May 4, 1919, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Mildred Faye (Bauer) Turnipseed. She graduated from Washington High School in 1937. Letha was united in marriage to Cloyce Statler on August 10, 1940, in Missouri.
Letha was a homemaker and had previously worked at Continental Telephone Company. She was a member of the West Chester United Methodist Church for over 90 years. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Pythian Sisters, Cinderella 4-H Club and the Neighborhood Industrious Club. Letha and Cloyce retired to Halcyon House in 2001, and Letha continued there on her own after Cloyce's death in 2002. After moving to Halcyon House she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Koehler and husband Edwin of Ainsworth, Iowa; Peggy Helscher and husband Bob of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kenneth (Brenda) Koehler, Kimberly (Chester) Johnson, Sarai (Mark) Logue, Kristen (Jason) Anderson and Mary (George) Reihner; six great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Marion Turnipseed of Washington, Iowa; and one sister, Erma Lyle of Tipton, Iowa.
Letha was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; brother, Daryl Turnipseed; sisters, Edna Statler and Frances Toothaker; and an infant brother.
