KALONA ? Lewis McFarlan Holliday, 73, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, after his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at Arlington United Methodist Church, 1400 University Boulevard North in Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home at 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North in Jacksonville.
A funeral service will also be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church at 2804 520th St. SW in Kalona. Burial will follow at the Sharon Center United Methodist Cemetery near Iowa City. Friends may greet the family at a reception following the graveside service, Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch CRC), Seattle, Washington, Attention Dr. Sunil Hingorani (Lewis Holliday Memorial), or Sharon Center United Methodist Church. Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Mr. Holliday was the son of Robert and Virginia Holliday.
He worked as director of taxes for Rayonier Inc. until his retirement in 2005. He loved to fish and was a master of all crafts, including woodworking, auto mechanics and gardening. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at Iowa State University, member of the board of directors of Bridgeport, Connecticut Habit for Humanity, Tax Executive Institute, Arlington United Methodist Church, First Coast Fly Fishing Club and Jacksonville Rose Society.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Carolyn (Stutsman) Holliday; three children, Leslie Groberman and husband Morris Groberman of Bellevue, Washington, Brian Holliday of Denver, Colorado, and Sarah McLaughlin and husband Samuel McLaughlin of Arvada, Colorado; four grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Holliday and wife Suzanne Holliday of Powell, Ohio, and Andrew Holliday of University Park, Maryland; Ron and Virginia Stutsman, Roger and Sally Stutsman, Jim and Jill Stutsman, Donna and Terry Davis, Cathie Stutsman, Bill Tompkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
