Lila May Jeffries, 93, died Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.

She was born July 1, 1931, at Independence, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Anna D. (Sorensen) Toomey. On January 2, 1960, she married Walter D. "Dean" Jeffries at St. James Catholic Church, Washington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2007.

Lila was a bookkeeper, working at Horak Insurance in Washington Iowa, then at the University of Iowa Anesthesia Department. She was a resident of Dodge City for the past 15 years moving from Washington, Iowa. She enjoyed bowling where she developed numerous friendships.

She was an excellent seamstress, using her talents for clothing, embroidery, knitting and hundreds of hand-made patches for the Boy Scout Troop 242 campouts. Lila also enjoyed writing poetry and was once published.

Survivors include: her son, Mark Jeffries and wife Rhonda, Dodge City; her daughter, Vicki Scott and husband Bob, Burbank, California; and two grandchildren, Lila Scott and Adam Scott.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Mary Wester and Rita Freiberg and a brother, Pat Toomey.

A Celebration of Lila’s Life will be held at a later date in Iowa. There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place.
