Lila Marie Wells entered this life on Aug. 12, 1941, in Selma, Iowa. She was the daughter of Paul and Minnie Goehring Winsell. She attended country school for most of her education before graduating from Keosauqua High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kenneth Wells. The two began their life as husband and wife on Aug. 6, 1960, at the Lebanon United Methodist Church. They lived in Fairfield and Libertyville before settling on the farm in Douds, which she called home for the rest of her life. Lila and Kenneth became loving parents to four children: Robbin, Randall, Rick and Dan. She loved being a wife and mother and worked hard on the farm as well as taking care of things at home. She spent several years as a cook at the Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua. In 1983, she and Kenny began a business together called Valley View Furniture. Together they worked at refinishing furniture and developed a successful business that lasted until their retirement over 25 years later.
Lila was a gifted seamstress and quilter who made many quilts for her family. She always enjoyed time caring for her garden, flowers and canning. She was a lifelong member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. Lila was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother who will be remembered fondly by her family and the many friends she made along the way.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Randall Wells (d. 1968); and three sisters, Wilma Davis, Phyllis Connelly and Doris Winsell.
Left to share her story is her husband, Kenneth Wells of Douds, Iowa; three children, Robbin Gallegos of Des Moines, Iowa, Rick (Amy) Wells of Douds, Iowa, and Dan (Lori) Wells of Douds, Iowa; six grandchildren, Gavin Gallegos, Randy Wells, Christian Wells, Benjamin Wells, Hannah Wells and Sarah (J.T) Tedrow; two siblings, Bill (Deb) Winsell of Ridgeway, Iowa, and Midge (Jim) Arnold of Oelwein, Iowa;, as well as many extended family and friends.
