Lillian Doris Monson

      Lillian Doris Monson, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Chapel of the Beatty Funeral Home with Dr. Edward Peterson of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Beatty Funeral Home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

      Miss Monson was born Aug. 22, 1913, near Trenton, the daughter of Frank E. and Katie Burky Monson. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, earned her teaching certificate, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught for 12 years at Iowa schools including Trenton, Star and Rome, as well as in Illinois. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Burlington during World War II and later attended the American Institute of Business. She worked for 23 years in the business office of Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company in Des Moines, retiring in 1977 and moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1981 where she lived until her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the Trenton American Legion Auxiliary.

      Survivors include a sister-in-law, Jean Brombaugh of Mt. Pleasant; three nieces including Mary Rockwell of Mt. Pleasant; a nephew, and several great- and great-great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Hjalmar Monson; a sister, Eunice Rockwell; and a nephew, William Rockwell of Mt. Pleasant.
