KALONA ? Linda Elaine Hartzler, 66, of Newhall, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, in Unity Point Hospice Care Unit in Cedar Rapids.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at the Stonebridge Church at 1829 Stoney Point Road S.W. in Cedar Rapids. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hartzler was born April 27, 1950, in Washington, the daughter of Donald W. and Ruth (Sutter) Yoder. She married Don Hartzler on Aug. 2, 1969, at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell.
She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1968. She and her husband made their home in the Kalona community until 2013, when they moved to Newhall. She loved raising her children. She had a catering business, ran the lunchroom at the Kalona Sales Barn for seven years, and worked as a secretary at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren, watching them participate in whatever activity was in season. She was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church and served on the Benton County Relay for Life committee.
Surviving are her husband, Don, of Newhall; six children, Christopher Hartzler and wife Molly of Ainsworth, Jocelyn Sadler and husband Nathan of Atkins, Jonathan Hartzler and wife Maggie of Atkins, Elizabeth Holub and husband Matt of Johnston, Daniel Hartzler and wife Emily of Iowa City, and Alison Galbraith and husband Jon of Garrison; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Lorene Bender and husband Ron of Wellman, and Lisa Lammar and husband Kevin of Kalona; and one brother, Gary Yoder of Kalona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Yoder.
