Linda “Linn” Johnson
Des Moines
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Linda “Linn” (Pistole) Johnson, on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
She was born March 19, 1944 in Crossett, Arkansas, to Cecil (Bill) and Doris Pistole and later resided in Fairfield, Iowa, where she attended Fairfield High School. She married Gene Johnson in May 1959 and they raised six children in southeast Iowa before settling in the Des Moines area.
Linn is survived by her sister, Ann Pistole, daughter Deb (Tim) Gioffredi, sons Michael (April), Bryan (Teresa), Tracy (Judy), and Chad (Courtney) Johnson, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy Pistole, sister Mary Ludlam, son Carey Johnson, grandson Tyler Nelson and great-grandson Brayden Ilse.
Linn loved animals and cared for multiple pets in her home. She was a NASCAR fan, loved to travel, and collected lighthouses. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and worked at Joy B. Fitzgerald, Inc., where she retired in 2013.
We, her family, would like to thank Suncrest Hospice Care, and everyone who cared for Linn at The Bridges at Ankeny who loved her, gave us comfort and allowed her to pass with compassion and dignity. There are not enough words to tell you how much we appreciate how wonderful, patient and compassionate all of you were during her time of need, and our time of loss.
Per her wishes there will be no ceremony. She has been cremated and will be laid to rest with her family in Hamburg, Arkansas.
