Linda K. (Hill) Underwood, 63, of Mechanicsville, died Friday, July 3, 2015, in the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 9, at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in rural Wayland with the Rev. Nancy Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Cottonwood Cemetery. Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home in Washington is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Underwood was born May 27, 1952, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Sinn) Hill. She married Paul Underwood in 1992 in Cedar Rapids.
She graduated from WACO High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, writing poetry and reading Scripture. She was very involved in the lives of her children. She endured MS for 21 years, never letting the disease define her, instead using her faith and strong spirit to bring blessings to others.
Surviving are her husband, Paul, of Des Moines; one son, Ryan Hill and wife Jill of Lisbon; five stepchildren, Becky Edie and husband Tim of Reedsburg, Wis., Steve Underwood and spouse Dale of Garrison, Diane Iddings and husband Lyndon of Edmonton, Canada, Lowell Underwood and wife Elizabeth of Fairfax, and Lisa Lee of Des Moines; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven siblings, Mildred Rich of Wayland, Beulah Manning of Mount Pleasant, Johnnie Hill and spouse Gail of Palm Springs, Calif., Violet McGuire and husband Harry of Olds, Thelma Bush and husband Larry, Arthur Hill and wife Sandy of Burlington, and Gary Hill and wife Laura of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Dwight Hill in infancy, Dennis Hill, and Marvin Hill.
