KALONA ? Lloyd Alphonse Duwa, 88, of Washington, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with the Rev. David Brownfield, the Rev. Tom Doyle, and the Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where a rosary and prayer vigil will be held at 3 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (UIHC), and St. Jude Cancer Research.
Mr. Duwa was born Feb. 1, 1927, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, the son of A.W. and Anita (Hora) Duwa. He married Roberta ?Bertie? Wieland on Aug. 28, 1951, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Riverside.
He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, and in October 1945 he enlisted in the Army and served his country until June 1946. He farmed and was a mechanic all of his life, and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Richmond AMVETS Post 107, Riverside VFW Post 6414, and the Eagles Lodge. He loved dancing, bowling, traveling (including many trips to Branson, Missouri), mushroom and rabbit hunting, attending Passion plays, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Bertie, of Washington; one daughter, Jane Duwa of Washington; one son, Robert Duwa and wife Terri of Washington; one grandson; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Duwa; and one brother, Milford Duwa.
