Lloyd A. Luers Jr., 89,
a long-term resident of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at Mechanicsville Speciality Care.
Lloyd was born July 7, 1930, in Washington, the son of Lloyd Adam and Ruth Ella (Robinson) Luers. He attended country school and graduated from Washington High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era, serving from 1950 to 1954. After completion of his military tour of duty, 27 years of Lloyd's subsequent career also involved service of his country, first with the Department of Veterans Affairs, where his duties included being Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD), and then with the U.S. Postal Service.
Lloyd was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington. He also enjoyed gardening and deer hunting. Most of all, he loved storytelling and visiting with family, friends and folks.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Jane Crosslin in 1971. He is survived by his wife, Jane; their son, Hal Dietrich Luers of Rochester; and Jane's daughters, Dawn (Randy) Kasper of Highland Village, Texas, and Deana (Dr. J. Turner) Starrs of El Dorado Hills, Calif. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Luers of Grapevine, Texas; sister, Vivian (C.J.) Griffith of Washington,; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Luers of Washington; as well as six grandchildren, Lena Luers, Brandon (Alicia) Kasper, Melana Kasper, Brenna Starrs, Shannon Starrs and Adria Starrs; and two great-grandchildren.
Lloy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Hank and wife, Bobbi Luers; brother, Dean Luers; sister, Virginia and husband, Don Smith; and sister-in-law, Mae Luers.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at First Baptist Church in Washington. A memorial service at the church will immediately follow visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
