FAIRFIELD ? Lois E. Brokken, 84, of rural Fairfield, died Monday, March 21, 2016, in the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 26, at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Burial at the Union Cemetery will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Union Cemetery, or for Parkinson Research, and may be mailed to: Melinda Estle at 2076 Tangerine Ave., Lockridge, IA 52635. Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brokken was born May 12, 1931, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Andrew Peter and Dorothy Augusta (Pohren) Crile. She married Wallace E. Brokken on Aug. 4, 1956, at the Clara Lutheran Church at Salina.
A lifetime resident of Jefferson County, she graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949. She received her B.A. in nursing from Augustana College. She worked at the Jefferson County Hospital and in the Jefferson County Public Health office before her retirement. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield and the Jefferson County Democrats. She rode in the Iowa State Fair Caravan for the Iowa State Fair Centennial in 1954, and again in 2004. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, playing piano, singing, embroidery, sewing, her flower garden, and making her famous pecan rolls.
Surviving are two sons, Mike Brokken of Lockridge, and John Brokken of Fairfield; two daughters, Julie Brokken of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Melinda Estle and husband Sam of Lockridge; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Loretta Diers and husband Wayne of Fairfield, and Betty Jacobs of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, on Aug. 2, 2009; her parents; one brother, Keith Crile; and two sisters in infancy.
