Lois L. Carlson

HERSHEY, Pa. ? Lois Louise Carlson, 93, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, June 4, 2017.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1, at First United Methodist Church of Hershey in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Friends may make a donation to UMCOR or World Vision.

Mrs. Carlson was born Jan. 29, 1924, on a farm outside Albia, the daughter of Sadie and Lewis Rouse. She married the Rev. E. Luke Carlson in 1958.

She was a graduate of Albia High School, received a degree in education from University of Northern Iowa, and was an elementary schoolteacher in Iowa and Pennsylvania. She worked alongside her husband, serving his United Methodist churches in Trevose, St. Philips, Millersburg, Mechanicsburg, Berwick, and Greencastle, Pennsylvania. They retired in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. She was an earnest Christian and was sustained by her faith that the Lord had forgiven her and accepted her into His family and would guide her, watch over her, and prepare a place for her at the end of her earthly life. She and her husband began every morning by saying a Bible verse and ended every day with devotions.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, E. Luke Carlson; three children, David of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sarah Jane and husband Mark Shaves of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Elizabeth and husband Ola Tornkvist of London, U.K.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Doris Stout, Verna Rouse, and Alvin Rouse.
