Lonnie Victor Holland, 69, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend left our presence after a short but hard fought battle with lung cancer.
Lonnie was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Sampson Holland; and father, James Mabry Holland. He grew up in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
He is survived by his daughters, Mindy Sloan and Tammy Kokke, both of Des Moines Iowa. He also leaves eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mona Holland and Carol Holland Davis; brother-in-law, William Davis; and multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
After attending Mount Pleasant High School, he went into the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably for 12 years. He lived in Wisconsin for many years and retired from a career as a construction heavy equipment operator. Lonnie was known as an inventer and sold several of his patented prototypes to manufacturers. His many hobbies and interests included scuba diving worldwide, travel, hiking, kyacking and participating in a railroad Speeder club.
The family invites all who knew and loved Lonnie to join them in a Celebration of Life gathering from 3 to 7 p.m. June 19 at Oakland Mills Park South Shore Shelter, 255th Street and Franklin Avenue in Mount Pleasant.
