Mr. Lonnie J. Herbert, 54, of Ft. Madison, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born June 27, 1969, in Canton, Illinois, he was the son of Jerry Lee and Linda Carol (Cattron) Herbert.

He was a graduate of New London High School in 1987 and attended 1 year at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

On November 5, 2011 he married Teresa Calvert in Crapo Park. They later divorced but remained good friends.

Lonnie worked for 10 years in the warehouse at Federal Mogul. He was the current Vice President of the UAW Local 1237. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Stephen King novels. Lonnie played frisbee golf and liked to cook. He was known for his cheesecakes.

Survivors include his mother, Linda (Clarence) Mitchell of West Burlington; brother Jamie (Cheryl) Herbert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; niece Arya Herbert; stepbrother Mike Mitchell of Keosauqua, Iowa; stepsister Jill Holt of Georgetown, Illinois; paternal grandmother Bette Herbert of Kahoka, Missouri and aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

The Celebration of Life for Lonnie will be 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Thursday, March 7 at Lunning Chapel. A luncheon will follow at Machinist Hall in Middletown. Inurnment will be at Wiley Cemetery in Ellisville, Illinois, at a later date

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
